Landmarks on the three heroes streets

Hello blog! this time I will to discuss about landmarks on the three heroes streets, but Iwill make this article different. Why dfferent? because this article in English. Yap, I was practicing my ability in English language. Let's start

Sisingamangaraja XII, Jenderal Sudirman and M.Husni Thamrin are our national heroes whose names are used as the names of three of Jakarta's main streets. Uniquely, these heroes came from three different areas and lived in three different eras. But their street names sort of form one long avenue. On these three connecting streets are located some of Jakarta's important landmarks.



SARINAH BUILDING

The Sarinah building project was started in 1963 and the finished structure inaugurated in 1967. The building as the first skyscraper and shopping center in Indonesia. The name Sarinah was taken from Sukarno's nanny who cared for him when he was a little boy.








PATUNG MUDA MEMBANGUN

Located at the Senayan round about, Patung Pemuda Membangun was made by a number of sculptors from ISA (Insinyur Seniman Arsitektur). The project started in July 1971 and was finished in March 1972.












 GEDUNG VETERAN / BALAI SARBINI

Gedung Veteran or Balai Sarbini, this building was initiate by General H.M. Sarbini Martodiharjo, the Minister of Veteran's Affairs and Demobilization at that time. It took a long time to realize this project. After it was initiated in 1963 and the building process started in 1965 (Sukarno's era), Gedung Veteran was inaugurated in 1973 (Suharto's era).




TUGU SELAMAT DATANG

Just like the Gelora Bung Karno sporting complex and Hotel Indonesia Kempinski, Tugu Selamat Datang was also built for Jakarta welcome the Asian Games in 1962. The statue depicts a man and a women waving a welcoming gesture to the visitors of the 4th Asian Games in Jakarta.







GELORA BUNG KARNO SPORTING COMPLEX

This sporting complex was built for the Asian Games IV 1962. The Indonesian goverment got a soft loan from The Soviet Union to build the sporting area that used to be called Gelora Senayan.





 JEMBATAN SEMANGGI

This landmark whose name derived from it's shape, a four-leaf clover, was built in 1961. Bung Karno, the first President of Indonesia, said that the four-leaf clover symbolized unity.







PATUNG JENDERAL SUDIRMAN

This 12 meter-bronze statue of one of the greatest generals in Indonesia was inaugurated on August 16, 2003. From 1945 to 1948 General Sudirman led a guerrilla campaign against the Dutch, who were trying to get Indonesia back.



HOTEL INDONESIA KEMPINSKI

Previously known as Hotel Indonesia (HI), this hotel built in 1962 was one of the first Indonesia. It was designed by an American architect, Abel Sorensen. After its big renovation from 2004-2009. HI got a new name: Hotel Indonesia Kempinski.
